Hyundai Tucson recognized for low insurance cost

In car-centric Los Angeles, many are in the market for a vehicle that has good fuel economy because of the mileage they accrue on a regular basis. Another factor, not to be overlooked, is the cost of insuring the vehicle. On January 25, Hyundai Motor America announced that the Tucson GL and Tucson GLS were rated among the top 10 “least expensive vehicles to insure” by Insure.com, a comprehensive resource for consumer insurance information. Insure.com conducted its annual study of more than 750 vehicles in the 2013 model year to determine which models excel at helping customers trim total ownership costs after they purchase their vehicles.

With an average annual premium of $1,189, the Tucson GL was the eighth least expensive vehicle to insure. The Tucson GLS ranked tenth with an average annual premium of $1,204. For the evaluation, Insure.com used average insurance rates from the six large carriers (Allstate, Farmers, GEICO, Nationwide, Progressive, and State Farm) in 10 zip codes per state. Minivans historically carried the lowest insurance rates; however, SUVs and crossovers, such as the Tucson, took the top spots in Insure.com’s most recent study.

“In the 2013 model year, crossovers and SUVs have taken control of the top 20, including models from Hyundai,” noted Insure.com senior managing editor Amy Danise. She added, “Vehicles like the Tucson can help drivers save significant money when it’s time to pay the insurance bill.”

The Tucson is the smallest of the three crossover utility vehicles (CUVs) in Hyundai’s lineup. Like many other Hyundais, the Tucson is increasing popularity because of its combination of style, function, and fuel efficiency. I can speak from personal experience regarding the Tucson. I purchased one for my wife a little over a year ago. I deem it to be a fun-to-drive, sporty vehicle with cargo capacity. My wife is particularly fond of the good visibility it affords when traveling on the San Diego Freeway. The 2013 Tucson GLS offers customers standard features, including fog lights, automatic headlight control, and heated front seats, features usually found on higher-priced luxury models.

“The Insure.com survey gives consumers another reason to consider Tucson as their next vehicle,” noted Scott Margason, director, product planning, Hyundai Motor America. He added, “Tucson provides a distinctive design and outstanding features to set it apart from the competition. The lower insurance rates also make it more affordable in the long-run for owners.”
