Hyundai Motor America has announced that it will grant federal workers who have been furloughed because of the government shutdown to defer their loan payments as long as they remain out of work. It will also allow any furloughed workers interested in buying a car this month the option of deferring payments for 90 days. The program will also cover warranties and vehicle care.

“This is our way of saying 'We've got your back' during this uncertain time, stated The company’s CEO John Krafcik. "We recognize the impact on family budgets that the furlough will drive.

The move is similar to the Hyundai Assurance initiated in 2009 to help American consumers who lost their jobs due to the recession by allowing them to return their purchased or leased vehicles within the first year of ownership without penalty. That program concluded in 2011.

For more information, readers can contact Hyundai Motor America at PO Box 208050, Fountain Valley, CA 92728 or call them at 800 633-5151.
