Hyundai teases 2015 Sonata ahead of the New York International Auto Show

Hyundai is enticing folks by releasing only teaser images of their much anticipated 2015 Sonata sedan. The latest design do-over comes as Chairman Chung Mong Koo, head of both Hyundai and Kia, is forecasting the weakest sales growth in eight years for 2014.

In order to reel in customers, Hyundai said it seeks to offer a "sense of premium quality in every detail" in the new Sonata but so far, the Korean automaker's spokespeople are reportedly being tight-lipped about supplying too much about the sedan's stylized details. There is talk that the vehicle will have a more prominent hexagonal grille, longer wheelbase, which is flanked by LED-infused headlights, metallic trim, standout character line and eye-catching alloy wheels.

The redesigned Sonata should continue to build upon Hyundai's "fluidic sculpture 2.0" a theme, that hints at not only performance but also European design touches. The car's exterior is composed of high-strength steel and has more structural reinforcements than the current model that will provide even greater protection for its occupants in the event of a serious collision. As far as the Sonata's revamped interior, the look will reportedly be upscale with premium touches such as a redesigned dash, wood trim, metallic and glossy black accents and more ergonomic cushion design to improve seat comfort.

The car's infotainment system or more intuitive Human Machine Interface (HMI) with a high-mounted screen is said to reduce driving distractions.

Chassis and powertrains should also reportedly carry over with small tweaks to offer fuel savings.

The Korean version of the new Hyundai Sonata will debut in South Korea next month and the U.S. version will make its splash in April during the New York International Auto Show.
