The Chicago Auto show opens on February 10 and runs through February 19; however, the show was open to the media on February 8-9. On February 8, Hyundai Motor America introduced the 2013 Elantra Coupe, the 2013 Elantra GT; furthermore, two Hyundai models received MotorWeek’s 2012 Drivers’ Choice Awards. The Sonata was tapped as the “Best Family Sedan” and the Accent was awarded the “Best Subcompact Car” MotorWeek, which televises a well-known automotive program, will also feature the Sonata and Accent on a special episode on PBS on February 11. With their impressive fuel economy, both vehicles should prove popular to the price-conscious LA motorist who faces fuel prices higher the national average and racks up the miles in his or her daily commute.
“For the second year in a row, the Hyundai Sonata has captured MotorWeek’s Drivers’ Choice Award for Best Family Sedan,” noted John Davis, MotorWeek host. “The Sonata’s sleek styling, top-notch interior and extremely efficient powertrains, including a new available hybrid model, have redefined the mid-size family sedan.” He added, “Speaking the language of the value-conscious consumer, the 2012 Hyundai Accent is a very stylish, well-made, fun-to-drive, roomy, and very affordable small car, that also happens to have the best powertrain warranty in the business… The Accent was also the first car in its class to deliver 40 MPG fuel economy right off the mark, with no options or special packages required. Now that’s value.”
More than 150 cars, trucks, and utility vehicles were judged by a panel of 15 judges from the TV show’s editorial staff. Its annual Drivers’ Choice Awards evaluate vehicles from the buyer’s perspective. The MotorWeek ratings are based on performance, practicality, fuel efficiency, and overall value.
“Since its introduction, Sonata continues to be the perfect mid-size sedan for families looking for quality and value with advanced standard safety features, three versatile powertrain choices and unrivaled interior convenience technologies,” noted Scott Margason, director, Product Planning, Hyundai Motor America. “And like Sonata has done in the mid-size category, the all-new Accent reinvigorates the subcompact segment with class-leading standard fuel economy and power.”
The world debut of the 2013 Elantra Coupe and the North American debut of the 2013 took place on February 8 at the Chicago Motor show. For those yearning for an up-clos-and-personal look at the vehicles, the Elantra Coupe, a two-door coupe model of the Elantra sedan, will hit Los Angeles dealerships this available this spring; the Elantra GT, a five-door hatchback, will hit LA showrooms this summer.
