Carscoop.Com is reporting via Bloomberg that Hyundai has overtaken Toyota in sales in Europe. That's not surprising to me as a summer trip to Spain showed a lot of Hyundais on the road. Plus, I had the opportunity to drive the i10 in Ann Arbor a couple weeks back and found it to be a perfectly delightful little four-door car that I could see myself driving over here.
Hyundai sales in Europe include Kia and Toyota sales include Lexus. CarScoop reports "(t)he two Korean companies sold a combined 521,369 vehicles in the first ten months of 2010, a 4% improvement over the last year, earning them the title of the biggest Asian carmaker in Europe with a market share of 4.5%. Meanwhile, Toyota's figures, including Lexus sales, dropped by 17% to 511,754 units, which accounts for 4.4% of the European market.
The CarScoop.com piece, which was reported by Csaba Daradics, points out that Hyundai and Kia are better positioned in Europe right now. Add to that the success of both brands in the U.S., where Toyota continues to be the dominant Asian brand, and Hyundai is enjoying some worldwide success.
