Hyun Gyu Lim had some hype coming into his fight with Marcelo Guimares. Although he fights at a weight of 170 pounds, Lim came into the fight with a reach of 82 inches, longer than many fighters who fight at a higher weight. In his first fight for the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Lim had a tough opponent fighting against him. Guimaraes was undefeated in his Mixed Martial Arts career prior to this fight, but Lim did not appear to be intimidated. The fight between Lim and Guimaraes was shown on Facebook, but MMA fans in the Inland Empire were able to see highlights of the fight on Fuel TV after the main event.
In the first round of the fight, Lim used his reach to his advantage and was able to land punches against Guimaraes. Despite being at a disadvantage, Guimaraes also had some moments on the feet. Near the end of the first round, Lim tried to knee Guimaraes but was perhaps too aggressive in his attack. Lim ended up getting taken down, but Guimaraes did not do much damage to Lim on the ground.
In the second round of the fight, Guimaraes was able to take Lim down, but Lim got back to his feet and eventually landed a knee to Guimaraes’ face. Lim followed up with punches to finish Guimaraes, handing Guimaraes his first loss.
In the post-fight interview, Lim said, “I'm so happy right now. From the beginning of the second round, he kept jabbing and moving to the right side. So, I watched that and timed it right."
