Often when I see clients and their presenting issue is anxiety, lack of concentration, motivation, changes in sleep or somewhere along those lines, my thoughts turn to the possibility of depression.
As hypnotherapists, when we suspect that a client has depression, we always ask for a medical referral. Bad eating habits affect the adrenal cortex which causes the blood sugar level to drop. With varying levels of sugar, the brain is affected in a negative way and causes low blood sugar.
Low blood sugar causes many symptoms such as headaches and various other states such as dizziness and fatigue. It is now known that hypoglycemia causes depression as well. If it is determined that the symptoms of depression are due to a drop in blood sugar, we wait until the diet has been adjusted. Often when the blood sugar level is gone or regulated, the depression leaves. The person is then able to think rationally again without the need for a hypnotherapist.
