Hyper Local Craft Brewfest comes to Somerville

It’s finally starting to feel like summer in Boston, and with warm weather comes a plethora of events focused on local food. Later this year, we’ll have Boston Local Food Festival to look forward to, presented by the Sustainable Business Network of Massachusetts, but before that, we have a few fundraisers building up to the event, such as this weekend’s Hyper Local Craft Brewfest.

Located at Center for Arts at the Armory, Somerville’s most whimsical piece of architecture, Hyper Local Craft Brewfest will feature several commercial breweries, such as local favorites Baxter, Notch, and Rapscallion, as well as newcomers to the craft brew scene, like Somerville’s own Aeronaut Brewing. All samples will be included in the price of admission to the event.

In response to the growing popularity of home brewing, Friday night, in addition to the regular tasting session, will include Homebrew Showcase, at which select home brewers will be offering samples of their locally sourced batches. A networking event for amateurs and experts alike, the Homebrew Showcase, co-sponsored by Homebrew Emporium in Cambridge, will provide information on sources for local brewing ingredients and techniques for how best to use them at home.

Not just for beer tasting, Hyper Local Craft Brewfest is a great way to spend your afternoon or evening enjoying local entertainment and learning about all kinds of community businesses. Cape Verdian folk artist Marion Campos-Gullotti will perform Saturday afternoon, and self-proclaimed “hard-hitting, chill-out, instrumental magic” band Le Pretige Saturday night.

All three sessions will welcome local vendors of snacks to pair with the drink offerings. Appearing at Hyper Local Craft Brewfest, as well as Boston Local Food Festival in September will be Brewfest veterans Q’s Nuts, Taza Chocolate, and Vermont Smoke and Cure. All vendors will have complimentary samples of their products, as well as larger portions available for sale.

No need to worry about choosing a designated driver, either. Brewfest sponsor Uber, everyone’s favorite hassle-free taxi alternative, will be giving away free samples, too, in the form of complimentary rides to and from the brewfest, up to a $20 value each.

The third annual Hyper Local Craft Brewfest will take place at Center for Arts at the Armory, 191 Highland Ave. in Somerville, on Friday, June 13th and Saturday, June 14th. Tickets are $45, and are available through Eventbrite.
