Hyper Crush had their album release party at The Roxy, on Feb. 4. They were promoting the release of their newest album “Night Wave”.
The Rock-It Scientists kicked off the party. After their set, the It Boys performed next. They opened their show by playing “DJ Got Us Falling In Love Again” by Usher featuring Pitbull. Jeff Oster and Judah Leary strummed the guitar, Duck Leary struck the drums, Tommy Coops pounded the bass and Matt Cutt was the lead vocal. Their sound was highly influenced by dance/electronica.
After the performance of the It Boys, Starting 6 appeared on stage. As they appeared on stage—“Sirius (Eye in the Sky)” by Alan Parsons Project was put on by their disc jockey, DJ Carisma. A few members of the group brought towels to the stage and waved them in a propeller motion—like Petey Pablo did with T-shirts in the “Raise Up” music video. They brought a huge amount of energy to the stage with them and the audience couldn’t help but to join in on the fun. Their sound was similar to 3OH!3 with a hint of Lil’ Jon and the Eastside Boyz.
Next, Hyper Crush performed. Their curtains went up and the fog machine filled up the stage with fog. They consist of Preston Moronie on the keytar, Donny Fontaine and Holly Valentine on vocals. Fontaine wore his glasses at night, like Corey Hart. Moronie could have been in the “Dancing in the Dark” video with Bruce Springsteen, and Valentine resembled Madonna, at the beginning of her career.
As Fontaine and Valentine left the stage, Moronie took the stage. He lit a cigarette, put on gloves and flipped the switches on them. With the flip of the switch, red lights shot out through his fingers. Fontaine and Valentine appeared on stage again. This time, Valentine had a different outfit on. As they went on stage, they brought out inflatable toys for the audience with the stagehands.
As the crowd began to become tired of their new inflatable toys, Valentine was handed a Super Soaker and began to drench the audience. It would be free by the merchandise booth, along with a poster. Shortly after, they performed the remix of the hit song, “Bulletproof”.
Hyper Crush set also included the performances of: “Keep Up”, “Ayo”, “The Arcade”, “Werk Me”, “Bad Boyz”, “Kick Us Out”, “C’Mon”, “Chead”, “Maniac” and “Cheap Thrills“.
