Hustlers add seven to 2011 roster

The Lexington Hustlers have added seven more to their 2011 roster, head coach Bobby Wright announced Tuesday. All seven players are native Kentuckians, including last year's Mr. Baseball J.T. Riddle and ace pitchers Brandon Boling and Tanner Perkins, both of whom played for Lexington in its inaugural season last year.

"We've stuck to our initial goals of having an extremely athletic and versatile roster, and it's obvious that all of these guys fit that mold," said Wright. "We're also excited about the quality of individuals that we're bringing into the Hustlers family... It's going to be an outstanding summer."

Here are the seven most recent signees:

Brandon Boling

Sophomore RHP

6'4, 190 pounds

Lexington, Ky.

Gardner-Webb
Threw 33.2 innings last year for the Bulldogs before coming home to Lexington and pitching for the Hustlers this past summer... for the Hustlers, Boling racked up 24 strikeouts in 28 innings of work and carried a tidy 2.57 ERA

Brandon Brian

Sophomore C/OF

6'4, 175 pounds

Louisville, Ky.

Western Kentucky
With an athletic combination of strength and speed, Brian also displays a strong arm from both behind the dish and the outfield... runs a 6.7 60-yard dash

Ronald Cotton

Freshman OF

6'3, 180 pounds

Florence, Ky.

Cincinnati
Two-time Enquirer first team all-star and NKySportsBlog Player of the Year Award winner was also a 45th round selection by the Chicago White Sox in last year's draft

Sam Kidd

Sophomore RHP/OF

6'3, 180 pounds

Hartford, Ky.

Kentucky
A legitimate two-way player, Kidd was a draft pick out of Ohio County High School, chosen in the 39th round by the Philadelphia Phillies... is a switch-hitter that is expected to contribute offensively, defensively, and on the mound for the Wildcats this year

Tanner Perkins

Sophomore LHP

6'3, 190 pounds

Brodhead, Ky.

Western Kentucky
Last year's opening day starter returns to the Hustlers for 2011... started 12 games and went 3-4 as a true freshman for Western Kentucky... went 1-0 in four starts for the Hustlers last summer, averaging nearly seven strikeouts per game

J.T. Riddle

Freshman RHP/IF

6'4, 170 pounds

Frankfort, Ky.

2010 Kentucky High School Mr. Baseball winner was also a 35th-round draft pick of the Boston Red Sox in the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft


Tanner Smith


Freshman OF/1B

6'0, 180 pounds

Powerful left-handed hitter has the ability to play outfield and first base
