The Husson University Eagles defeated the University of Maine Farmington (UMF) in the North Atlantic Conference championship game to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA division III tournament.

The Eagles will travel to Plattsburgh, N.Y.for a first round contest against Eastern Connecticut State (ECSU) on Friday evening at 5:30 p.m.

Husson has won their last12 games, including the overtime thriller over UMF in the conference final.

Trevon Butler earned NAC player of the year honors.

Butler averaged 14.9 PPG, and 6.9 RPG. He is also a top notch defender and a threat from behind the three point line.

Phil Leighton averaged 11.6 PPG and was named to all conference second team honors.

Mike Garrow is the leader of the Eastern Connecticut State Warriors. The senior is averaging 17.9 PPG, 7.9 RPG, and 3.1 APG.

Garrow was named little east conference player of the year.

Brian Salzillo and Trachone Preston also earned all conference first team honors.

Both coaches earned coach of the year honors.

Husson coach Warren Caruso was voted NAC coach of the year.

Bill Geitner of Eastern Connecticut State earned little east coach of the year for the third time in the last five years.

Keene State and Nichols are common opponents for the Eagles and Warriors.

Husson defeated Keene State 81-76 in their season opener in mid November.

ECSU (22-6) swept Keene State, winning 84-53 at home, and 72-69 on the road.

Husson defeated Nichols 88-81 at Newman Gymnasium.

ECSU went on the road and defeated Nichols 83-68.

The Eagles and Warriors winner will play Saturday evening against the Plattsburgh State/MIT winner.

Husson (26-2) is looking for their first NCAA tournament victory in school history.
