Huskies run over Bobcats in tournament play

The University of Washington Huskies softball team showed offensive power in their first home game of the season as they defeated the Ohio University Bobcats 17-1 on Friday at Husky Softball Stadium on the UW campus.

It was opening day at the Husky Softball Classic and Washington gave their fans plenty to cheer about as they added 12 hits to their run output. It extended the Huskies win streak to 10.

Washington (15-5) junior pitcher Kaitlin Inglesby started the game pitching three innings that included four strikeouts, one walk, three hits and one run.

Husky Sophomore Kasey Stanchek pitched the final two innings of the run-rule shortened game getting three strikeouts and one walk.

The game included an offensive show by junior Victoria Hayward who almost hit for the cycle as she singled, doubled and tripled her way through the game. Junior Hooch Fagaly also recorded three hits.

The Classic began the day with the University of New Mexico Lobos getting a 7-1 win over the Bradley University Braves. The Lobos (13-12) then defeated the Seattle University Redhawks 2-0 in their next game.

Bradley (12-10) came back later in the day for their second game defeating the Yale University Bulldogs 3-0. The Bulldogs (1-3) evened their tournament record defeating Ohio 7-1 in their next game.

The Husky Softball Classic gets back to action at 10 am Saturday morning when Seattle (8-12) takes on Ohio (12-5).

Washington, ranked 19/16, will play a doubleheader tomorrow night with their first game scheduled at 5:30 pm against Bradley and their second at 7 pm against New Mexico.
