Huskies rock Morton Arboretum this weekend

If you love the Morton Arboretum like I do, you don’t need an excuse to visit. It offers beauty any time of year. But if you don’t know the Arboretum yet and you have always wanted a chance to know more about dog sledding, this weekend is the time you should visit.

In what has become an annual winter event, the Husky Heroes dog sledding and speed demonstrations return to the Arboretum, from 11 a.m.to 4 p.m.on both January 28 & 29. Sled pulling and speed demonstration will happen at 11:30 a.m., 12:45 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3:15 p.m.,with or without new snow.

The event also features noon, 1:30 p.m. & 3 p.m. showings of a free film about the husky's role in Alaskan history, The Last Great Race. Seating is limited; free tickets will be available at the Visitor Center one hour prior to presentation.

Take advantage of a family photo opportunity beside the dogs and an authentic dog sled! Plus, you can not only watch these beautiful dogs in action (and meet some up close), but you can sign up to adopt a loveable husky who needs a home.

Need refreshments? You will be able to purchase both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages at an outdoor tent near the demonstrations from 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m. The Arboretum staff and the husky handlers do ask that you not bring your own pets to the demonstration.
