Despite dominating the play, the Huskies had to dig deep for a late winner, allowing Washington to earn a 1-0 win over UNC-Greensboro and salvage a split of their two games at the No Ka Oi Tournament on Sunday afternoon.
Washington outshot the Spartans 24-4 and had an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal. But the Dawgs couldn’t beat UNC-Greensboro keeper Jamie Simmons during the 90 minute regulation period and the first of two overtime period.
But with just minutes remaining in the second overtime period, Amanda Perez sent in a cross that Jaclyn Softli knocked into the upper corner of the goal, allowing the Dawgs to leave Hawaii on a high note.
The goal by Softli was the Huskies first goal of the season. Megan Kufeld played the entire game in goal for Washington, making three saves to pick up her first win of the season.
The Huskies return to Seattle for their home opener on August 30 against the Baylor Bears.
