The seventh-ranked Stanford Cardinal, riding a three-game winning streak, came into Seattle and took care of business, making a late first half goal stand up in a 1-0 win over the Washington Huskies at Husky Soccer Stadium on Thursday night.
Stanford’s Lo’eau LaBonta scored the only goal of the match in the 44th minute, beating Huskies keeper Megan Kufeld from 15 yards out for her fourth goal of the season.
The Dawgs fought back, nearly scoring on a couple of second-half scrambles in the box, but in the end couldn’t beat Cardinal keeper Jane Campbell who made six saves on the night.
The Cardinal outshot Washington 12-8 including 5-3 in the second half and took the only corner kick of the night. Lindsay Elston led the Dawgs with three shots, two on goal, while Kufeld made three saves.
The Huskies fell to 7-7-4 and 3-2-3 in the Pac-12. Washington hosts California on Sunday.
