The second-seeded Washington Huskies saw their season end at the hands of New Mexico, falling 1-0 to the Lobos on Saturday night at Husky Soccer Stadium.

In freezing temperatures, the Lobos were able to adapt better to the elements, using turf shoes instead of cleats on the frozen field. The turf shoes gave New Mexico the upper hand in the opening half, while the Huskies had little traction while using traditional grass cleats.

The Lobos took full advantage, scoring the only goal of the match in the 37th minute after some nice passing in front of the Dawgs goal, culminating with Ben Mckendry knocking in a pass from Oniel Fisher.

The Huskies changed into turf shoes during halftime and pushed for the equalizer in the second half, but the Dawgs ultimately coming up short.

After being outshot 10-1 in the opening half, the Dawgs held a 7-6 shots advantage in the second half. But it wasn’t enough, as the Huskies ran out of time, seeing their magical season end a game short of the Final 4.
