A 13-year-old girl called for help moments after her mom was shot multiple times at a home in the Hoschton community in Gwinnett County Wednesday morning. By the time officers arrived the woman was already dead and her husband has been arrested as a suspect in the crime.
So far, police have not released the name of the victim or the suspect. They also have not provided a motive for the crime.
The investigation began around 4:30 a.m. when the teen called 911 to report that her mother had been shot inside their home in the 4900 block of Platinum Court, according to Gwinnett County police.
When officers arrived, they encountered an adult male acting erratically outside a few houses near the incident location, police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith said. Officers took the man into custody and additional officers proceeded to the home where the shooting occurred, Smith said.
Upon making entry to the home, officers located an adult female who had been shot multiple times, Smith said. EMS personnel determined that the victim was dead, apparently from the gunshot wounds, he said. The 13-year-old daughter was not injured.
"The adult male subject was determined to be the husband of the victim and father of the 13-year-old caller," Smith said. He was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and will remain in police custody upon his release, the spokesman said.
"This subject is the primary suspect in this case," Smith said.
Police have not said if they found the weapon used in the shooting. They also have not provided any details on the circumstances surrounding the shooting or whether police have responded to the home before for any report of domestic violence.
The teen, who was being questioned by detectives, will be placed in the care of other family members, Smith said.
