Husband named person of interest in Grosse Pointe Park woman’s murder

Police told the media Friday that Bob Bashara, husband of slain marketing executive Jane Bashara, is a person of interest in the case. The Bashara home was searched by police that evening as Bob Bashara sat for a polygraph examination.

Jane Bashara was last seen alive leaving a meeting at the offices of DTE Energy downtown at about 4:00 PM Tuesday.

Husband Bob Bashara told police he found evidence his wife had returned to their home in the 500 block of Middlesex Tuesday evening, but she was not home when Bob Bashara got there at about 8:00 PM.

Bashara assumed that his wife had gone back out on an errand, but became increasingly concerned when he could not reach her by telephone. He declared Jane missing at 11:30 PM Tuesday night.

Jane Bashara’s body was found by a tow truck driver Wednesday morning, in the back seat of her Mercedes Benz SUV in an alley in the area of 7 Mile and Hoover.

An autopsy revealed that Bashara had been strangled.

Bob Bashara insists he is cooperating with investigators, but police have begun to focus on him.

Bashara was interviewed by police on Thursday. On Friday, he submitted to a polygraph test at the Grosse Pointe Park police station, leaving without comment at about 9:00 PM. There is no indication when the polygraph results might be revealed.

Meanwhile, armed with a search warrant, DPD and Grosse Pointe Park police searched the Middlesex address. They took photos, examined documents, and removed computers and peripherals.

That Friday, authorities proclaimed Bob Bashara a person of interest in his wife’s murder.

At a news conference, Grosse Pointe Park public safety director David Hiller told reporters the police have no other persons of interest, but would not explain why Bob Bashara is being considered one.

Bob Bashara has retained an attorney.

This is a developing case, so stay tuned.
