Due to the cool, dry spring and long hot summer, crops have had a difficult growing season this year, causing prices to soar and pumpkins are no different. Then add the hurricanes and tornadoes, it have been rough.
Surprisingly, there are more pumpkins than was thought there would be. Most pumpkins look to be in pretty good shape and size.
Pumpkin patches have been popping up around Tulsa during October waiting for children and their parents to pick out the “just right” pumpkin. Below are some pumpkin patches in the Tulsa area:

Food Pyramid, Reasors, Harps, Homeland, Petty’s Fine Foods, and Whole Foods Market in Tulsa are offering a selection of pumpkins in various sizes and ornamental squash and other fall vegetables.
Remember on carving a pumpkin to not carve it too soon as the pumpkin starts to shrivel up after 4 or 5 days of being carved. So if you are carving a pumpkin into a jack o’ lantern for Halloween night, it is best to carve it a day or two before.
This is a fun time to allow your children in on the decorating and carving of pumpkins, just make sure adults are there to do the main carving. Another way to decorate pumpkins for young children, allow them to use washable markers and washable paints to decorated their pumpkins. Have fun!
