The Carolina Hurricanes took an overtime loss on Tuesday night to the NHL heavy weight Chicago Blackhawks, in Raleigh N.C. After a quick start from the Stanley Cup holding "Hawks" the Canes tightened up the defense and did not allow anther goal until the shoot out round.
After a tough loss to Phoenix on Sunday, the Canes find themselves back in the same situation on Tuesday night. Posting 2 goals in the 3rd period by Alex Semin and Ron Hainsey to send the game into extra periods. Ultimately loosing the game in the shoot out round to a goal from Patrick Sharp.
The Hurricanes send Chicago back to the windy city with 2 points, while retaining 1. Most importantly the Hurricanes have gained a little respect as a contender in the new Metropolitan league. The new NHL alignment has the divisions heavily stacked with the East coast power house teams landing in the Metropolitan division.
So far, Carolina has risen to the level of the rival. Next for the Canes is a trip to the "Great White North" and a face off against the Toronto Maple Leafs. No break in tough opponents, Kirk Muller will need to ready the troops for battle against another of NHL's giants. The puck drops Thursday the 17th at 7:00 PM.
