From June through December, all of South Florida watches the skies in anticipation of the next big one. The nams of Andrew, Wilma, Frances, and Jeanne stick in their collective minds, and the memories of cleaning up thousands of tree limbs, as well as dealing with power outages, phone disruptions, and cable failures are still fresh in their memories.
AtHomeNet, Inc. has created a new Hurricane Resource Guide for community associations to prepare for the season. According to the National Weather Service, Hurricane Adrian, the first named hurricane of the season is off the coast of Mexico, providing many coastal communities and homeowners associations a reminder to prepare for potential disaster.
"Following several devastating natural disasters throughout the world, we created this helpful guide to provide communities and associations with some helpful tips and resources for communicating with their residents and preparing for a crisis," remarked AtHomeNet CEO, Susan Sanders.
AtHomeNet offers multiple resources for communicating in case of a community emergency including Email Bulletins, Announcements, and their recently released emergency alert system, MultiConnect. MultiConnect allows website administrators to extend the reach of their messages by sending them via email, text message, and voice calls to association residents.
"This functionality is crucial for any community, giving community managers the ability to connect with their residents during an emergency and provide them with vital information to prepare for an incoming natural disaster or repair notifications following an event," said Director of Sales and Marketing, Mike Curtis.
AtHomeNet's Hurricane Resource Guide is available for downloading on their website for anyone who wants to prepare their community or organization for a natural disaster. The guide includes tips on using your website as an information source as well as a communication tool. Also included are tips for preparing your community for potential disaster and a list of resources.
Other resources are also available to help your community prepare for hurricane season. The American Red Cross provides a list of what to do before, during, and after the storm on their website. They also provide courses and other information geared specifically towards HOAs. Palm Beach County Emergency Management also provides a vast array of local resources on how to prepare for, and survive the storm. These are only a couple of the vast amount of online resources available to help prepare for the worst, while hoping for the best.
Be sure to subscribe to this column, and stay abreast of issues involving you, the homeowners of Palm Beach County! If you've had any issues with your HOA that you'd like me to try and delve into, and possibly write about later, please let me know.
