The Huntsville-Madison County Public Library will celebrate classic screwball comedies in February and March with a series that begins on Monday, February 6, 2012. The free movie screenings will take place on Mondays at 6 p.m. and will open with introductions from local classic film experts and scholars, including librarian David Lilly, Classic Movies Examiner Jennifer Garlen, and UNA lecturer Anissa Graham.
Here is the full schedule for the series:
February 6 - “It Happened One Night” (1934), starring Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert
February 13- “Ninotchka” (1939), starring Greta Garbo and Melvyn Douglas
February 27 - “His Girl Friday” (1940), starring Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell
March 5– “To Be or not To Be” (1941), starring Carole Lombard and Jack Benny
March 12– “The Philadelphia Story” (1941), starring Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant, and Jimmy Stewart
March 19– “The Palm Beach Story” (1942), starring Claudette Colbert and Joel McCrea
All events are scheduled for the 2nd floor events room at the main branch of the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library, which is located at 915 Monroe St. in downtown Huntsville. Visit the library’s website or call 256-532-5940 for more information.
