Hunting Bigfoot

Thinking of hunting, you usually imagine the hunter decked out in camouflage, with an ammo belt slung across the chest and rile in wedged under the arm.  The hunter will be walking great distances along mountain ridges, and up canyons looking for game.  The hunter is constantly checking for sign around water sources, mud holes, and the soft dirt.   Finding footprints, the hunter will track the game using all the stealth that he/she can muster.  The hunter relies on their intellect knowing they are the most intelligent creature in the forest, and they can anticipate their prey’s reactions and out-smart the hunted animals to get a great shot.  The hunter relies on the biggest advantage-- a weapon that can reach out and kill the prey instantly up to five hundred yards away.

Now imagine hunting something that is your equal in intelligence.  The beast has the home advantage and knows every tree, stick, nook, and cranny.  The creature is superior in the five senses.  They can smell you for miles, and can see you coming long before you get there, and they can hear your every move.  The creature can move through the forest with ease, and can out run you in a heartbeat.  This creature is very rarely alone, and relies on a network of early warning centuries that sound the alarm and fall back before you get a chance to spot them.  Home is the bush.  The thicker the growth the better, and your rifle’s range avails you no protection or advantage.  Now imagine that this creature is very rarely seen in the day, and comes out to hunt and forage at night.  With black fur, and dark grey skin they instantly blend in to any shadow or bush.

Hunting Bigfoot is different than most imagine.   Chasing them avails you nothing.   They are masters of the forests, supreme in physical strength and dexterity, and they rule the night.  Hunting them with conventional methods and equipment does not work.

What do humans have to obtain the advantage?  Technology, sweets and patience is the answer.   The successful Bigfoot Hunter (those who have more than one sighting under their belt), know you have to meet Bigfoot on their terms.  Entice Bigfoot into showing themselves with sweet treats.  Habituation and curiosity are the best tools of the Bigfoot hunter.  Bigfoot has to want to see you.
