A hunter kills 500-pound wild hog with a single shot from a .308-caliber AR-15 rifle and he is receiving national attention after news of his incredible catch went viral. CBS News reported on March 12 that the hunter was identified as 34-year-old Jett Webb.

Webb, a professional hunter living in the town of Conetoe, N.C., said he will save on food costs in the coming months because he and his family plan on eating the entire wild hog.

"We’re not going to waste anything,” Webb told media sources. “That pig will provide food for me and my family for a good year."

Webb couldn't believe his eyes when he spotted the wild boar, which reportedly was 8-feet long and weighed 500-pounds, in Bertie County near Indian Woods.

"It was very surreal,” Webb expressed. “It was a shock. It was very humbling to say the least, when you walk up on a beast that big and you say, 'Oh my gosh. I had no idea that there could be something that big running around the woods of Eastern North Carolina.’"

After overcoming the initial shock of seeing such an animal, Webb aimed his AR-15 rifle at the animal and pulled the trigger. Despite its immense size, the wild hog was no match for a .308-caliber round.

According to a report from WNCT, the massive boar was first seen by former members of the White Oak Hunting Club a while ago.

Although the 500-pound wild hog is one impressive beast, its size falters in comparison to the largest boar ever caught. In 2004, a guide in Alapaha, Georgia, shot and killed an enormous wild hog which was later named "Hogzilla." Scientists confirmed that the animal weighed a staggering 800-pounds.
