Popular Tex-Mex restaurant based out of Austin, Chuy’s, will open in the North Hills Shopping Center this fall according to the Triangle Business Journal . Known for its quirkiness, including its shrines to Elvis, the funky, King-loving restaurant will likely liven up the Raleigh midtown landscape with its kaleidoscope of colorful décor and rhapsody of Tex-Mex flavors.
Chuy’s currently operates 39 restaurants across eight states and has been aggressively growing after debuting shares on the public market in the middle of 2012. The eclectic hacienda maintains a beloved reputation around its Austin, Texas headquarters. And, despite its iconoclastic motto, “If you’ve seen one Chuy’s, you’ve seen one Chuy’s”, the quick expansion of the popular Tex-Mex eatery does have some fans worried that the restaurant known for its unique culture will become another derivative chain restaurant.
As I had mused earlier this year about upcoming culinary trends and seeing more taquerias in the Triangle region in 2013, Chuy’s does offer tacos, as well as a variety of Tex-Mex cuisine that incorporates its hand-rolled tortillas and freshly-made signature salsas. Tex-Mex fans with an affinity for green chiles are in luck because Chuy’s features green chiles prominently in many of its dishes and pays homage annually to the green variety of chile pepper from New Mexico with a green chile festival.
