It was all about warmth and confidence on the runway for Nicholas K during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, at Lincoln Center, in New York City.
Brother and sister design team Nicholas and Christopher Kunz discussed their Fall/Winter 2014 collection with me backstage before the show. “Our line is based on photo journalist Jean Gaumy, who spent a year taking deep sea fishing pictures. Our theme depicts the struggles of these very strong willed, determined and hardy people.”
Their color palette reflected the cold isolation of life at sea, with hints of deep ocean blue, black, gray, cream and chocolate brown. New to their usual muted, natural tones, the duo introduced burgundy and navy this season.
Brooding models “walked the walk” in slouchy pants, creamy cable knit sweaters, hooded parkas and rolled up leather fisherman shorts over leggings. The collection was also styled with hand knit fisherman hats with leather straps, fisherman work boots by Honeywell, and jewelry made from nautical rope.
Fans of this, rugged, outdoor line include “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson, who donned the look in the movie. It’s no wonder Nicholas K says, “they design for confident, independent types who like to keep warm and look great". Get ready for your close-up!
