Winter Storm Orion brought with it 2 feet of snow followed by a day of frozen rain. As one walked through the usually hushed quite of a snow-bound Lane County, the periodic crashing of trees loaded with tons of frozen rain filled the night air. Bad news for residents living on tree-lined streets and hillsides. While I was fortunate, several Loraine, Crow valley neighbors were not.

Crushed cars, broken windows and roof-lines doted the now darkened neighborhoods of Eugene, Springfield and Rural Lane County.

Monday morning found the sounds of not too distant small generators filling the air on day 5 of this exceptional winter episode.

Looking to the Lane Electric Cooperative website, we find that 8% of the small utilities customers to be without power. L.E.C. services 12,000+ homes and business in the mostly rural Loraine, Crow district of the Willamette Valley.

According to Lane Electric, crews are on the ground and in the air replacing transformers and repairing downed power-lines and polls.
