Humphries and Moyse probably too far back to win Olympic gold again

According to the Sochi 2014 website, Kaillie Humphries of Calgary and Heather Moyse of Summerside, Prince Edward Island find themselves 0.23 seconds back of Elana Meyers and Lauryn Williams of the United States after heat two of the women's bobsled competition at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi on Tuesday.

The lead for Meyers and Williams is significant, but what seemed even more interesting on Tuesday was how puzzled Humphries looked after Meyers and Williams went down the track in a total time of 1:54.89 compared to the Canadian time of 1:55.12.

The fact that the Americans are so far ahead of the Canadians at this stage was not meant to be. It was the American bobsled team that has lacked stability throughout the season with their constant mixing and matching between their three sleds. It is Moyse who is considered the best push starter in the world today, yet it was the American team who set a start record (5.13 seconds) on Tuesday. And, oh yes the fact that Humphries can take confidence in the fact that she is the reigning Olympic champion, world champion and World Cup champion is basically a mute point now.

The Canadians have come from behind in the past, but 0.23 seconds might just be too much at this stage.
