Steve Martin is one of the most successful stand up comedians ever. He is also one of Hollywood's most successful movie draws. He is also an accomplished banjo player. He is coming to San Diego on Wednesday, August 17th at Humphrey's Concerts By The Bay with the Steep Canyon Rangers.
Billed as An Evening of Bluegrass and Banjo, just by reputation it promises so much more. Martin's musical prowess will keep the audience enthralled, his propensity for improve will keep them in stitches. That alone is worth the price of admission, but add to that the world class Steep Canyon Rangers and it suddenly becomes quite the bargain.
It's been almost 45 years since Steve Martin began his career, first writing (and winning an Emmy) for the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, then the Glen Campbell Goodtime Show, Sonny & Cher's Comedy Hour, and more. In his stand up career, his trademark white suit with an arrow through the head first puzzled, then thrilled fans.
He began playing banjo while performing as opener for the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band back in the 70's, and has developed into a Grammy Award winning musician. Now, touring in support of their 2011 release Rare Bird Alert, Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers bring their live show to San Diego. Go see it. Thank me after the show. I'll be the one with the really big camera.
Tickets are $75 + fees and available here.
