The Hump day commercial phrase “it’s Hump Day” has been banned in one middle school after causing chaos. “Everybody's walking around in the hallways and saying its [it's] hump day in that weird voice," said one of the students at Vernon Center Middle School in Connecticut. According to an Oct. 3, 2013, CBS News report, students were not just using the Hump day commercial phrase on Wednesdays, but every day.
In regard to the Hump day commercial phrase, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mary P. Conway commented that some sixth-grade students at Vernon Center Middle School started using the phrase so much that teachers said it was very disruptive.
Since there are always days before "Hump Day" and a few days after "Hump Day," students took the opportunity to count down to the day of the Hump day commercial. “Sometimes its [it’s] the counting down to when it is" that caused the chaos, said Vernon Center Middle School student Brooke Lewis.
And parents are agreeing with teachers that the students’ use of the Hump day commercial phrase has gotten out of hand.
"OK, that's getting out of hand," said one of the parents, Mick Ruggiero of Vernon. "Just keep it to Wednesdays and we'll be all right."
Mick Ruggiero admits that middle schools have to deal with much bigger things than to take care of sixth-grade students overusing the Hump day commercial phrase.
At the same time, however, if the students’ behavior of walking around in the hallways and saying "it's Hump day" in a weird voice is becoming a disruption to the students’ education, “teachers just wanted to nip it in the bud,” said Superintendent Dr. Mary P. Conway.
Dr. Mary P. Conway clarified that using the Hump day commercial phrase is not a district or a schoolwide issue. However, since sending the kids to the principal’s office did not resolve the disruptive behavior, they have now banned all references to the Hump day commercial – even on Hump Day.
