Spring has sprung in Santa Fe and the hummingbirds can't be far behind. April is a typical month for hummingbirds to return seeking early flowers and welcoming feeders. It's time to put out your feeder in anticipation of their return. For nectar, it is suggested that you use a mixture of four parts boiled water to one part sugar... no red dye needed. They will be attracted to the red on your feeder.
Bird experts recommend changing the nectar twice weekly. The birds can tell. It is good to hang a feeder in plain sight and, perhaps, near a bush or tree where they can perch while waiting their turn.
Here are some feeders you can purchase.
