While most fans of Steven Spielberg and Daniel Day-Lewis have likely already seen the multi-award-nominated film about the sixteenth president of the United States, some who haven't yet seen "Lincoln" in theaters have an opportunity to do so on Tues., Feb. 19. Garberville Theater will be showing the historical drama for members of Community Credit Union for free. The doors open at 5:30 p.m. and there will be no admittance to the theater after 6 p.m. This event is sponsored by Community Credit Union of Southern Humboldt.
"Lincoln" stars Daniel Day-Lewis as President Abraham Lincoln, Sally Field plays his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln and other stars like Tommy Lee Jones, Gloria Reuben, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Hal Holbrook and James Spader round out the star-studded cast. The film focuses on the last four months of Lincoln's life. From attempting to get the Thirteenth Amendment passed to Lincoln's visit to the battlefield at Petersburg, Virginia to that fateful moment when John Wilkes Booth fired the fatal shot at Ford's Theater, Spielberg has captured some of the most riveting moments of the Lincoln presidency on film. Doris Kearns Goodwin's biography of Lincoln, "Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln," provides much of the inspiration for the movie.
Since being released on Nov.9, 2012 in the U.S. the film was nominated for seven Golden Globe Awards, twelve Academy Awards and has grossed more than $235 million at the box office. According to wikipedia, "Lincoln will be released on Blu-ray, DVD, and digital download on March 26, 2013 from Touchstone Home Entertainment. The release will be produced in three different physical packages: a 3-disc combo pack (Blu-ray, DVD and digital copy); a 2-disc combo pack (Blu-ray and DVD) and a 1-disc DVD.
