Technology continues to drain the need to remember anything. People do not have the need to actually remember anything now because they know that all of the information that they would ever need to know at any moment is just a second away on the internet. Now with a SMART phone you can actually bring up anything you wish to know even if you are in the middle of nowhere, providing you have a good service provider.
There has been a major shift in society over time. That is exactly what evolution is. It is a change in a species over time. The change at present is the intelligence in society. In ancient times, the nobles and the upper crust of society were made up of the smartest people in society. They were the best read people who had the money to go to school. Currently, there is no need to remember information. Thanks to technology, society is not really based on what you know anymore.
Education used to be important, and in some countries it is still top on the list. The problem with technology is that it is taking over children’s lives. Education isn’t the most important thing anymore. Instead, the most important thing is who just texted me, or who just posted new pictures on Facebook, and which hot celebrity just tweeted what they were doing this afternoon.
Technology is great, but sooner or later we have to come to terms with the fact that our society’s intelligence is being hurt by some technology. The attitude of society needs to change in order to increase the value of education in our children. If this trend keeps going along the same path, the movie “Idiocracy” will actually be a semi-accurate portrayal of the future. The recent push for education from our government is great, and truly means well. The problem is that until we change society’s view of education, this decreasing educational trend will never change. Instead of caring about Snooki’s new baby, or which Kardashian is marrying someone, our students should be reading a book, or doing their homework.
With evolution, the changes normally get exaggerated from generation to generation. That is exactly what will happen with society’s intelligence as well. Each generation will raise the next generation and the respect and need for education will decrease just a little, creating a society so dependent on the information given to them by the internet that the evolutionary need for intelligence will no longer be needed.
