Earlier this year the Central Arkansas Transit Authority (CATA) and its advertising agent, On the Move Advertising (OTM) refused to run advertising on 18 buses for the Central Arkansas Coalition of Reason an umbrella group for 12 atheist and humanist local groups. UnitedCoR (the parent organization for Central ArkansasCoR) sued. On Thursday August 11th, the case was heard and UnitedCoR won.
According to Fred Edwords, the Director of UnitedCoR, “This victory was made possible through the Appignani Humanist Legal Center of the American Humanist Association.”
U.S. District Judge Susan Webber Wright said that the transit authority must make space available for an atheist group’s ads. The advertisement in question reads, “Are you good without God? Millions are” and features a blue sky with clouds in the background.
