A new holiday themed billboard, bus, and newspaper campaign is about to be launched by the American Humanist Association. The “Naughty” campaign is aimed to raise awareness about the discrimination against nonbelievers in America.
There will be two different ads going up. The first is an image of Santa Claus making his lists and says, “Bias against atheists is naughty, not nice.” This ad will be going up in various cities across the nation which has had somewhat high profile incidents of discrimination against atheists.
“For example, the AHA placed an ad in the Cranston Herald newspaper because a high school student, Jessica Ahlquist, endured harassment and threats - one even called her a “stupid atheist” - for objecting to the display of a religious prayer banner hanging in her public high school auditorium.
Another ad was placed in a newspaper near Bastrop, Louisiana, where a student named Damon Fowler was ostracized by his community—even his own parents kicked him out of his home—for objecting to a Christian prayer that would be held during his graduation ceremony.”
You can read other stories of discrimination HERE. You can also read where the ads will be going up HERE.
The second ad will be of college-aged young people wearing Santa hats with the words, “Don’t believe in a God? Join the club!” The same massage has been used on UnitedCoR billboards in the past. These ads will be going up in the Washington DC area.
It should be noted that neither of these billboards are an attack on religion and should not be offensive to any religious believers and yet this Examiner is reasonably sure that controversy will ensue anyway.
