The Humane Society of Greater Dayton removed over 150 pets from the home of a Dayton-area resident earlier this month. These pets largely consist of chickens and rabbits, and the Humane Society is in the process of trying to secure foster homes for the rabbits (most of the chickens have accommodations at this time).
Dozens of bunnies are currently living offsite, and this includes 15 Dutch bunny babies (approximately 3 months old), a few Lionheads, a few lops, a few adult Dutch bunnies and assorted others. The offsite living quarters are only available until February 18, 2013 and the lease cannot be renewed; foster homes are desperately being sought. If you can help foster one or more of these bunnies, arrangements will be made to provide you with supplies for housing and feeding the rabbit(s) you foster.
Not able to foster a bunny but still want to help? You can donate supplies online with just a few mouse clicks! The Humane Society of Greater Dayton’s Wish List is on Amazon, with captions on the site indicating which items are most desperately needed and which items are targeted for these particular rabbits. Items start at under $3, and range from food and water bowls and toys to exercise pens and fleece pads for the bunnies to sleep on.
Simply go to Amazon.com and in the search engine, type ‘Humane Society of Greater Dayton Wish List’ and several pages of items (with photo and description) will appear (or click on this link).
The Humane Society receives no public funding and is run entirely on private donations; even the donation of one food dish or one pet toy can make such a difference.
If you prefer to shop locally, PetCare Solutions on the southwest corner of Stroop and Marshall in Kettering has timothy hay pellets and food and water bowls (heavy ceramic ones are preferred) and Mike can order most anything else you care to donate. Donations may also be brought to the Humane Society of Greater Dayton at 1661 Nicholas Road.
Another way to help is by donating money to the Humane Society of Greater Dayton Rescue Fund. This fund helps all animals who are victims of cruelty and neglect, but if you put the word ‘rabbits’ in the notes box on the donation form, it will go directly to this specific case.
Humane Society staff and volunteers are most grateful for each donation, no matter if large or small, and each donation makes a significant positive impact on the innocent pets caught up in this situation.
You can see a few of the items from the Wish List in the slideshow, but there are dozens of much-needed items on the list. A few clicks and a few dollars can make such a difference in the life of one of these pets.
