The Humane Society of Greater Dayton’s 6th annual Kitten Shower will be held on Sunday, May 18, 2014 from 12-2 pm at the Humane Society at 1661 Nicholas Road in Dayton. The annual event promotes kitten and cat adoptions as well as the foster program, and collects needed donations for the huge influx of homeless kittens which arrive every spring.
In addition to helping the Humane Society collect much-needed supplies, the Kitten Shower is a great family fun event. The Humane Society will be decorated as if for a (human) baby shower; there are refreshments and games, raffles, and kittens to play with and adopt. Attendance is free, but guests are requested to bring gifts for the ‘babies’. Guests may spend time with the kittens and learn about fostering and adopting, as well as be educated as to the importance of the spay/neuter program and the challenges that the Humane Society faces in dealing with the huge numbers of kittens that arrive each spring.
Says Karen Williams of the Friends of the Humane Society:: 'Every spring, thousands of kittens are born, and the Humane Society takes in many unwanted and stray kittens. The sheer number of kittens can be overwhelming, and the shelter needs lots of help to provide care for them. This event reminds people what a challenge it is every spring to deal with the extra kittens that come in. It also reminds people of what sweet, deserving animals the kittens are!’
