As an expression of love and support for humanity and Detroit, the Secret Society of Twisted Storytellers will present "Human Spirit" at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History.
The monthly event is a winner of the Knight Arts Challenge, which funds projects to engage and enrich the city through thought-provoking, soul-cleansing arts. "Events like [this] bring out the artist in all of us, helping us to think creatively about our lives and communities", said Dennis Scholl, vice president of arts for the Knight Foundation.
Curator, producer, and recent recipient of the 'Spirit of Detroit' Award, Satori Shakoor, invites you to share your story or inspiring tales told by others. "Storytelling is a way for people to learn more about themselves and each other," says Juanita Moore, president of the Charles H. Wright Museum. "[You] experience a feeling of life, growth, and excitement through connecting and that deserves a place to be showcased."
Coco (radio host), jazz artist Sky Covington, opera singer Betty Lane, and pianist Amy Jackson will share their stories.
"Real people. True stories. Told Live."
WHEN: Friday, December 20.
TIME: Doors open @ 7 p.m.
