Congressman Randy Hultgren (IL-14) stated Monday that although Obama signed into law a bill to raise the debt ceiling and provide an end to the governments partial shutdown, it did nothing to address any of the enormous spending issues.
The bill was far from what Senator Reid would call a clean bill, it included spending funds for countering Joseph Kony’s Lord’s Resistance Army in Africa, $450 million for roads in Colorado, $2 billion for a dam project in Kentucky and $174,000 for the late Sen. Lautenbergs widow.
Congressman Hultgren stated that he voted no on this bill because it will add $1 trillion to our national debt. He stated that it is imperative for the Democrats and Republicans to get serious about curbing the spending and stop governing by crises every few months. That while the national debt is racing past $17 trillion, the Senate and Obama chose to add another trillion dollars in new taxes with The Affordable Health Care plan that is sure to add more than half a trillion dollars to the deficit in 10 years.
“The Senate and President have chosen to add $1 trillion to our debt for an agreement with no teeth, all the while ignoring our massive debt that threatens our economy and our future,” said Rep. Randy Hultgren (IL-14).
