Fashion-tech start-up Hukkster has been named one of Time Inc.’s 2013 Top Start-ups to Watch. Hukkster’s core message is to help shoppers save time, money and cut the dirty work out of shopping. Hukkster co-founders Katie Finnegan and Erica Bell are putting the power back into consumers’ hands. Instead of relying on retailers to push blanket, store-wide sales out to customers, the startup lets shoppers track sales on items they actually want to buy. Users “hukk” the item to their virtual list and receive an alert once the price drops. In this exclusive interview with the founders they talk about what it means to “hukk,” how the process really works, and what trends they are looking forward to this season. Read the full interview below and take some time to get your “hukk” on by visiting their site: Hukkster.com and see what the hype is all about!

Examiner: How are you?

Erica Bell: “We are doing great! It’s our busy season, but we are loving it. It’s such a fun time of the year and with all of the exciting sales triggering every day. Where it's an exclusive coupon code or new sale products, we make sure our shoppers find out right away so they can get access to the products they want at the best prices this holiday season.”

Examiner: What is Hukkster?

Katie Finnegan: “Hukkster is a free shopping tool that allows shoppers to track products online and get notified via email, text message, and/or push notification when those products go on sale or when a coupon code is applicable.”

Examiner: Hukkster is a unique name, how was it created?

Erica Bell: “ Hukkster is a play on the word huckster. A Huckster is an old term for a peddler who would go door-to-door selling his wares. We changed the c to the k to make it Hukkster. We're your modern day Huckster bringing those deals straight to your inbox.”

Examiner: How would you describe Hukkster to someone who is not very computer savvy?

Katie Finnegan: “It's a simple way to keep track of all those products you like in one convenient location with the added bonus that you'll get an alert the moment they go on sale! Just think of Hukkster as your new shopping companion. Once you download the browser extension to your computer or app to your mobile device, it’s always there when you shop online. Simply click the hukk it button to add a product to your wish list."

Examiner: What was your ultimate goal of Hukkster and what did you want people to take away from it?

Erica Bell: “Our ultimate goal for Hukkster is to be a household name and the go-to tool for shoppers everywhere. We want to help people save time and money so they can feel empowered when they shop online and spend their time on more important things.”

Examiner: Using three adjectives how would you describe Hukkster and what makes it unique?

Katie Finnegan: “Game-changing. Convenient. Reliable.”

Examiner: Who uses Hukkster?

Erica Bell: “Over 165,000 savvy shoppers around the US use Hukkster to save them money as they are shopping online. On average Hukkster users save $44 on each purchase or about 30% off.”

Examiner: What trends do you expect to see this spring/summer and what are you most excited about?

Katie Finnegan: “We are really excited about the trends coming out for Spring/Summer 2014 and can’t wait to hukk all of our favorite pieces for the season. Pastels and menswear dominated the runways this past season for a lot of our favorite designers. We can’t wait to see how our retail partners like Bloomingdale’s, ShopBop, and J.Crew will pick up on these trends.”

Examiner: Who are your celebrity fashion icons?

Katie Finnegan: “Jenna Lyons and Tory Burch. I love how they make work wear so effortlessly chic and they always do it with a pop of color!"

Erica Bell: "Olivia Palermo and Gwyneth Paltrow always look so posh and polished on and off the red carpet"

Examiner: Where do you see Hukkster in five years?

Erica Bell: "Hukkster is changing the way people shop online. In five years, shoppers will be hukking everything from their grocery list to their wardrobe. It will be the universal shopping tool to help shoppers manage their purchases and save money. As women everywhere consult one another and ask, 'where did you get that dress?' the common response will be, 'I hukk'd it!'"

Examiner: Lastly, how can shoppers best use Hukkster this holiday season?

Katie Finnegan: “Hukkster is the perfect tool to help busy shoppers save time and money this holiday season so they can spend it on more important things! Simply use Hukkster to hukk your wish list and share it with family and friends. Not only will this guarantee that you get gifts under the tree you actually want this year, but your friends and family will be able to reap the savings as well!"
