As the biggest night in cinema comes to a close and all the 2012 Oscar winners are showing off their statuettes, Hugo is the overwhelming winner when it comes to movies adapted from children's fiction. Of the eleven categories in which the film, based on The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Silznick, was nominated, Hugo walked away with five wins. The only other film that captured that many Oscars was The Artist which won Best Picture in the category in which it was nominated with Hugo.
Hugo takes home the golden Oscar in the following categories.
Cinematography - Robert Richardson
Art Direction - Dante Ferretti and Francesca Lo Schiavo
Sound Editing - Philip Stockton and Eugene Gearty
Sound Mixing - Tom Fleishman and John Midgley
Visual Effects - Rob Legato, Joss Williams, Ben Grossmann, and Alex Henning
Although three other films based on children's books - War Horse, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 and The Adventures of Tintin - were also nominated in several categories, none of these films won any awards.
