Hugh Hefner discusses his love for comics
Hugh Hefner is known by many as the head of Playboy's massive empire and all it represents; beneath this, though, there is apparently a man who loves something very simple: comic strips.
Hefner reportedly talked to a pop-culture journal called Royal Flush about his love for the popular strips, and it actually revealed quite a bit about the man we're used to seeing holding parties at the Playboy Mansion and appearing on "The Girls Next Door." He apparently chooses what comic strip he wants in Playboy every issue, and he was even at one point an amateur cartoonist himself. His strips were based more on his own life, and his character had the name of "Goo Hefner."
In its heyday the Playboy comic strips were created by such artists as Jack Cole, who created the classic hero known as Plastic Man before committing suicide in 1958.
