The race kicked off at 5:00 promptly last Saturday afternoon beside Buffalo Bayou just outside downtown Houston. The 'A' leg bore the brunt of the afternoon heat, but for the most part, legs 'B', 'C', and 'D' enjoyed some welcome cloud cover.
This X-C race was the first of the HARRA fall racing series. The next event in the series is the USA Space Center 10-Miler and is slated for 10/10/10. For last Saturday's race, Houston-area running clubs entered 4-person teams and earned points based on participation.
The grass and dirt route along the 2 mile single loop course consisted of rolling hills and one must-walk rise for all except those who more resembled mountain goats rather than humans. The fact that the baton pass-off zone was at the base of a curved, steep hill all but guaranteed starting off in oxygen debt.
Kudos to the Tornados Running Club for once again doing a spectacular job of hosting this great event and arranging for the kegs of ice cold beer. Go here for more HARRA X-C race photos.
