Huge rock damages Benson Bridge at Multnomah Falls

See also

Another huge rock has fallen at Multnomah Falls and this time it has damaged the beautiful Benson Bridge, which is now closed. No one was injured.

Rain has returned to the Columbia River Gorge. The downpour along with high winds has decreased the stability of the hillsides and increased the water flow in creeks and waterfalls.

You'll probably remember the huge boulder that fell into the upper pool. It remains there today. On Labor Day in September 1995 this 400-ton boulder, loosened by erosion, fell 225 feet from the face of the falls into the upper pool.

The Forest Service has also closed the Wahkeena/Multnomah Falls loop trail and Larch Mt Trail #441 was closed from Multnomah Falls plaza to the Gorge 400 trail.
