Deadline.com has reported on Monday that the long-anticipated, 5-week and 10-hour-long mini-series on the History Channel, "The Bible", has opened up with huge numbers, landing it as the "No. 1 cable entertainment telecast of the year" with 13.1 million viewers.
As Deadline reports, it was a pretty good night for the History Channel, which also premiered "Vikings", which followed right after "The Bible" and attracted 6.2 million viewers.
This seems to be a pretty good indication that, perhaps, there is enormous potential for "religious-themed entertainment programming aimed at Christian audiences", wrote Nellie Andreeva, contributor for Deadline.com/Hollywood.
And, apparently, as Breitbart.com reported on Monday, there are others in Hollywood who are willing to take advantage of this enormous potential, pointing out that the biblical account of Noah, starring Russel Crowe, is set to hit the theaters in 2014.
There have also been rumors of Steven Spielberg linked to a film about Moses, which Deadline.com/Hollywood first reported in January: Steven Spielberg Near Commitment to Direct Moses Epic for Warner Bros.
In 2004, Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ" was also met with enormous theatrical success worldwide, confirming the belief that there is a huge and receptive audience eager for Christian-themed productions.
"The Bible" on the History Channel, as producer Mark Burnett asserted, is something that will very likely garner tons of attention from millions of people, for many years to come.
"I'll make a big statement here," he says. "More people over the next 25 years will watch this series than "Touched by an Angel", "The Voice", "Shark Tank", "Survivor", and "The Apprentice" combined."
