Huge pet-treat recall on dog and cat products: Possible salmonella contamination

A 'huge' pet-treat recall was posted by the FDA due to possible salmonella contamination. These dog treat and cat treat products have several brand names. The recall involves all pet-treats made at the Kasel Industries Denver plant from April 12 through Sept.19. The products have been voluntarily recalled by the company, according to The Seattle Times on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013.

The company makes pet-treats for many different brands, so this is considered a huge recall nationwide for a variety of brands.

The recall includes the following pet-treats:

*Boots & Barkley
*BIXBI
*Nature's Deli,
*Colorado Naturals
*Petco
*Best Bully Stick items

The batch numbers and more information on this recall are posted here on the FDA website.

Pets that eat these products can get sick and there’s also a risk to humans who handle the dog-treats of possibly getting contaminated with salmonella.

The pet-treats are sold nationwide under the names posted above and if you do have one of these products in your home don't use it. Signs of salmonella poisoning in animals include diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting. The animal will most likely become lethargic, according to the FDA website’s recall posting.
