Huge fire in South Texas warehouse causes multiple fireworks explosions

Traffic and citizens in Wilson County stopped in amazement to watch smoke and fireworks explode from a South Texas fireworks warehouse Saturday afternoon.

"We could see the dark billowing smoke for miles on Highway 181," said Shorty Miller, who was driving from Corpus Christi to San Antonio, when he first noticed it. "As we got closer to Floresville, it began to grow and could tell it was in town."

The rapid growing fire was centered in an American-Chinese fireworks warehouse, next to their store.

"At first we thought it was the Ewalds Tractor usiness, but as we approached we could see and hear fireworks exploding all over the place."

According to local fire fighters, the fire destroyed the warehouse and delivery trucks.

"Those guys (fire fighters) are having a tough time of it, because they don't know what or when another bottle rocket or whatever is going to go next," said Miller, who first noticed the smoke about 2:10 p.m.
