According to the Canadian Press, Calgary Stampeders' head coach John Hufnagel has been nominated for the Annis Stukus Trophy as the Canadian Football League's coach of the year.
Hufnagel is one of three finalists that includes Scott Milanovich of the Toronto Argonauts and Mike Benevides of the British Columbia Lions.
Hufnagel, who is also the Stampeders' General Manager, led Calgary to a 12-6 record in 2012 and a spot in the Grey Cup. The Stampeders upset the Lions 34-29 in the Western Final, before being upset themselves in the Grey Cup, in a 35-22 loss to Toronto.
Unlike all of the other CFL Awards which are presented three days before the Grey Cup championship, the CFL coach of the year award is presented three months after the season has been completed. The winner will be announced on February 28 in Regina, Saskatchewan.
The award is voted on by the Football Reporters of Canada. Hufnagel won the Annis Stukus Trophy once before in 2008, the last year the Stampeders were Grey Cup champions.
