The Huffman Falcons (26-5) advanced to the area round of the Texas 3A state high school playoffs with a thrilling 95-94 overtime win.

Huffman's win was marked by big stops in regulation and even bigger shots in the final seconds of regulation and overtime.

With the Falcons trailing by five and just five ticks showing on the game clock, enter Huffman's sharpshooting guard Brett Coogler. Coogler who hadn't played until then nailed the three that pulled the Falcons to within two. An H -J turnover with three seconds to play set the stage for Dumas. Dumas, whose 47 points led all scorers drove the baseline, missed, grabbed the rebound, missed again and then as the milliseconds counted down, the Northwestern Oklahoma State commit grabbed another rebound and this time he didn't miss sending the game to overtime. They stepped out of bounds with 3 seconds on the clock in regulation Dumas drives baseline. Gets 2 of his own offense rebounds and finds a way to get the 3rd one in.

In overtime Garion Slayton and Kyle Richardson provided the final second heroics. Trailing 94-93, Slayton drove the lane and found senior forward Kyle Richardson open for the game winning basket with four seconds left.

Dumas (47) led four scorers in double figures for Huffman. Richardson dropped in 14 while senior guard Darion Gray and Slayton added 10 points each.

Huffman advances to the area round for the first time since 2004 meeting perennial basketball power Houston Yates. The two teams meet on Thursday, February 20, 2014 in a 7PM tip-off at North Shore High School.
