Located in the foothills of the Adirondacks is the town of Queensbury. The town attracts most tourists with Six Flags' Great Escape and Splashwater Kingdom. However, tucked away off Hudson Pointe Blvd is a beautiful nature preserve. With over 83 acres of trails, the Hudson Pointe Nature Preserve offers an ideal setting for walking, hiking, snowshoeing and cross country skiing.

I visited the nature preserve last weekend and there was still a fair amount of snow leftover from last week's snowstorms. I chose to snowshoe, although a good pair of waterproof hiking boots would have been sufficient. As you walk along the trails, the Hudson River will be on your right. While this is not a setting for hardcore hiking enthusiasts, the mellow trails make for a relaxing afternoon. You can get right down to the river and skip rocks. Overall, a great place to clear your mind and stretch your legs before settling into another work week.

To access the preserve, take exit 18 off the Northway. Turn left onto Hudson Pointe Blvd and follow until you get to the parking area.
